I remember loving this scene from Empire of the Sun. I think a lot of my friends growing up in Baltimore fell in love with the idea of being lost children. Not that any of us were. That’s probably why it seemed so attractive to us. We used to watch movies like Empire of the sun, Red Dawn, and Hope and Glory over and over. The idea of having to take care of yourself in the worst possible circumstances was so romantic. Christian Bale’s oscar win last night made me think of how incredible he was in Empire of the sun. So sad, heroic, and beautiful.
